So, who is Kailum? Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Dave Saragosi, I'm a 23 years old guy, who is trying to make his favorite hobby into his profession. I'm living with my girlfriend Noa, and trying to enjoy life as much as I can.
Why the name Kailum?
Kailum is a name from a book that I loved to read, he is a kind of a magician dwarf.
How would you define your music?
I would define my music as electronic music, I don't want to define it just as 'trance' music because I am merging in my tracks a lot of music styles.
What is your musical background?
Well, I don't have any professional music education, so I guess it's just a natural sense of hearing. I started to play music 6 years ago with Moshe Kenan (Xerox) under the name Kailum. Our first release was Kailum- kailum, in Israel's Psychedelic Trance vol.1, we were doing this track with Syncro. After a while we separated, and I started to work alone still under that name (till today). Then I met Udi Shternberg (DJ Goblin), we started to play music together under the name Psysex, we released the track '4 days of madness' on Psychedelic Krembo 4. And then I was back to play alone. My next release was the Kailum EP at Kaktus (A new sub-label of Krembo), this EP has two progressive house tracks. I also released a track that called 'Dig' on Filterd Reality from USTA/Krembo. It was out on vinyl as well. Now I finally released an album, which is a solo album- Confusion, it got eight of my most loveable tracks.
What did you grow up listening to?
I used to listen to metal music at my first year of high school, then I started to hear Hardcore Techno, and then I discovered the beautiful trance music.
How and when did you discover trance?
I discovered the trance music when I was 15 years old, a friend of my big sister arrived from Goa, and gave me a cassette of trance music he brought from there. I knew I love it from the first listening.
What would you define as your musical influences?
I think that I am influenced from several styles like: trance, ambient, house, techno, breakbeat, hardcore, etc. Usually I'm mixing these styles in my tracks.
How do you feel this shows up in your music?
You can hear it...
Tell us about the new album- Confusion?
The new album is samples of what is going on in my mind. That's why every track sounds different from the other. I tried to show several ideas in a track and still maintain a certain format. I made this album in the passed year in Tel-Aviv. The track Digital Anarchy was made together with my girlfriend. She helped me solve some of the problems I had during the making of the album. | |
What inspires you to write a track? How do you make the tracks- give us an example from the album.
I am always inspired to write a track... sometimes I hear a sound and I feel like I need to twist it and make it my next track. For example, I saw this painting, in green & yellow colors, and it made me think about making track no 8 in the album (Green & Yellow).
Do you play live/DJ?
Yes, I am DJing from time to time, usually my own music. Now I hope to play more of my music in parties.
What do you like doing more- making music or playing it?
I think it's more fun when you are combining between these things. I love to write music at home, and I'm pleased when I see the people dance to it in a party.
What are you working on these days?
These days I am working on Psy-techno-trance music, and several other different projects in different styles (some of them more mainstream).
Future plans?
To keep on making music, and get in with it more seriously so I could keep on growing and make even better music.
