Analog Pussy are back again, doing justice to those of you who are not vinyl freaks but still want to have these tunes at home. They bring us a collection of most of their vinyl-only releases, which before could not be heard on a CD (apart from Space Walk mixed in Humus Conspiracy II). The outcome is a good representation of what the couple have been doing in the last 2.5 years- dark, technoish, very raw in sound and totally dancefloor oriented (breaks & build-ups included). Space Walk opens the CD, a repetitive minimalistic piece with thunder air-moving kick, great groove, lots of cute percussion work, a lot of scratchy-catchy sound games, and quite a crunch. Happy bumpy jumpy night music, heavy, yet light. Hanging Myself Comfortably that follows is a real twisted tune, full of power and drive and a lot of rhythm changes, massive hi-hats use, great breaks and a lot of surprises- just listen well. Ball Banger (T3) from their new 12" is a more melodic piece, but a different kind of melodic though. Nice percussion and hi-hat work, technoidic space phasers shooting catchy melodic lines, space bees attack, and most of all, irresistible drive, ending up in a totally full on morning feel. Then it's Generator Man time (T4), "welcome to the world of the Generator Man"- It is a world full of hard and heavy powerful bass, a lot of deep flying psychedelic and almost underwater sounds all around. Nice one, but gets lost in the end somehow, a remix should be an option. The Lion and the Witch (T5), another one from the last 12" is a real gem- a weird blend of Kraftwerk and old 80s electronic sounds and feel with totally funky 70s melodies, psytrance parts and driving kick-bass and percussion. Real innovation- a Joy. Discotek (T6) is a slow discoish groovy and even funky piece in spacey sounds. It's filled with little sound mind games and stories, and of course the expected yet irresistible squeezing build-up with the great percussion come back. Tribal robotic funk! Tails From the Crypt (T7), from the Underground LP, is indeed cryptic- opening with a slow fuzzed kick and bass intro of more tan two minutes- a joy for DJs, but also to listen to, then the hi-hats enter, the real kick follows and thing develop slowly and beautifully in a mechanic groove (yeh, I know, but that's what it is) dipped in a lot of cruch into a long maze of progression, build-ups and rhythm changes. An unbelievable break is present as well of course. Great stuff!!! Next, also from the Underground LP, is a shorter remix of the great Audio Santo (T8). The sound is definitely upgraded here, it's a bit more clubby, but story wise it does not offer much change from the original- the same feel is here, but it means that it's still a great track. Death Roll ends it here. A very repetitive and monotonic minimal piece with dark atmosphere and a technoish feel to. Nice break and build up work with changing rhythms and sound. Makes you jump up and down to the beat and make pwwwrrrrt with your lips- yeah I know it sounds weird, but listen to the track and you'll know what I mean. Wait till it opens in the end- good things come to those who wait... |
