Since being formed in 2003 by Elad Asy, Aquatica has been releasing loads of tracks on compilations. There was never a full album, up until Ocean of Emotion, that is. Being real fond of pounding bass lines (all around 145 bpm) and lots of melody, Mr. Asy has worked all this up in one album, aptly titled Ocean of Emotion. The album is regular melodic full on, in the typical Com.pact style. Most of it is pretty fluffy sounding, so those looking for a sharper edge to their full on should probably look elsewhere. Aquatica manages to surprise me, by being melodic but pretty psychedelic at times as well. Don’t be fooled into thinking there’s an electro influenced track on here, in the form of Electrolatina, because aside from some guitar samples thrown in this has no electro influence at all. It is good though. There are also two collaborations on this one, the first with Sesto Sento (Pimp my Symphony, T6) and the second with System Nipel (Chords of Paradise, T8). The first is one of the harder tracks here with some vocoded singing thrown in for good measure. The collaboration with System Nipel sounds a little faster and is more melodic again, the same style as the previous Aquatica-only tracks. As I said before, the main course here is melody. That’s done pretty right here. My favourites here are: 1, 4, 6 & 8. The rest is ok too, but the last track is really bad, a bit more chillout but with an irritating whispered voice, probably Elad himself. I could’ve done without that one. As a bonus, there’s a second CD with, and I’ll quote from the promo text: “Aquatica - Lab Sounds is a special bonus CD including Sound Effects, Loops, Synth Lines and all the audio tools needed to produce electronic music. This CD contains 2 folders reflecting the Aquatica's dual passion, Trance and Electro.” I’ll leave you to decide if this is useful for you. |
